Insighter: The Theory & Practice of Human Transformation
Welcome to the Insighter substack a small piece of what I envision the Insighter ecosystem can one day be.
Built on the shoulders of many great sages, philosophers, psychologists, and scientists -- Insighter is the theory and practice of human transformation.
It is concerned with post-conventional development where humans:
Begin to deeply question self & reality
Become less concerned with achievement and more concerned with inner experience
Abandon purely rational ways of knowing in favor of a more holistic approach where emotions, body sensations, and context are taken into account.
Care more about our relationships and connection to nature
Go beyond knowledge accumulation and into wisdom cultivation
For many, this is the start of their spiritual life or the beginning recognition of a deep interconnectivity.
Questions like “Who am I?, Why am I here?, & How do I live a life of meaning and purpose?” become increasingly relevant.
It is from this place that many begin to engage with deep inner work practices such as meditation, psychotherapy, and conscious psychedelic use.
Through this journey, we transverse peaks and valleys, experiencing liberating insights and existential dilemmas.
Some of the challenges we may find ourselves facing include:
Difficulty balancing our spirituality with conventional life
An increasing aversion to doing meaningless work
Distress due to an increased awareness of inner conflicts
Loss of self & no longer knowing who we are
Disconnection and loneliness that comes from outgrowing our relationships
A loss of meaning due to the recognition that reality is constructed
An increased sensitivity to the suffering and injustices in the world
Unfortunately, mainstream society doesn’t support human development beyond the conventional stages.
Scientific reductionist models of the psyche make no space for spiritual experiences nor do they provide the motivation to live wise, wholesome, and meaningful lives.
For all the innovations that capitalism drove, it doesn’t inspire us to develop beyond productivity and self-interest.
Through this substack, I hope to create content, conversations, and community to support those moving into post-conventional forms of development.
Some of the questions I am looking to explore are:
How do we create and sustain meaningful relationships?
How do we integrate individuality with community?
How can we support spiritual exploration in order to minimize adverse experiences?
How do we create meaningful work that can sustain our lives?
What is wisdom and how can we cultivate it?
How do we bridge power with ethical responsibility?
How do different spiritual practices & paths contrast in the results they produce?
How do we integrate personal transformation with social transformation?
How do we increase our capacity to hold paradox?
How do we cultivate a healthier relationship with the internet, social media, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies?
These are not questions to answer but questions to live with.
They are inquiries that propel us into unchartered territory, ever-new possibilities, and deeper stages of human development.
If any of this resonates with you I encourage you to subscribe and join me on this journey.
